Chats on the Farmhouse Porch #96

Happy Tuesday everyone, and what a gorgeous day it is, blue skies, warm sunshine and hardly a breeze. It was so lovely I took a walk over the cliffs again. I will share the photos tomorrow but today Im joining Patrice at Everyday Ruralty for her Chats on the Farmhouse Porch.

So grab a coffee, take a seat, and lets see what questions she has this week

1. When it comes to vegetables, which do you use more often- canned frozen, or fresh?
I have always been a fan of fresh vegetables....the fresher the better. You cant beat the taste of veg newly picked or dug up. Just like the potatoes below, grown in my own garden last year, bursting with flavour. We have a wonderful farmers market in the town and I am  regular customer. Failing that, frozen can be a good substitute

2. Do you sew?
Yes, I do sew..buttons on shirts, hems on dresses, splits in seams, but I find it a bit of a chore. What I love though is cross stitching. It gives me so much pleasure watching the design appearing on a blank piece of material. And the coloured silks....gorgeous.

3. Do you have a common fear, such as the fear of heights, spiders, snakes, small spaces, flying, etc?
Spiders...eww eww ewwwww...especially when they have a baseball bat. Enough said..shudders...
Is there anything you recommend for cutting the grocery bill?
If you have a garden, growing your own vegetables can definately cut your grocery bill. You don't need a large space, you can even grow lots of veg in containers.
Another tip is to be a savvy shopper. Menu planning and shopping with a list is a must. It eliminates impulse buying. Always check dates on fresh and chilled goods and don't be afraid of some of the 'value' items on sale. There is usually little difference to the most expensive products. And of course, using coupons is a great money saver

5.Tell me about something that made you happy over the past week.
The weather has been so gorgeous this week, its been wonderful just sitting out in the garden with the family. Watching Little H discovering grass for the first time, and playing with bugs has been an absolute joy...Simple pleasures..right?

  3. Little H is just too cute for words! I used to grow tomatoes in the backyard until the slugs arrived. Ewww. But maybe I will try a potted patio plant this year.

  4. Simple pleasures are wonderful. I'm surprised to hear you say that spiders have baseball bats. I thought that we needed a baseball bat when we find spiders. :) I'm glad to hear you go to a farmers market. We are vendors at one. Fresh is always best. That is an amazing cross stitch of the wedding picture!
