Too Much Turkey?

As a Brit recently married to an American...and living in a new country.. the importance of Thanksgiving is a new concept for me I have heard of it, but until you are actually experiencing it, it all seems a bit foreign...no pun intended..I think. I am now rushing around...having dragged myself from my sick bed I may add...looking for decorations, housewares and menu ideas. I have learnt that as well as being  a time for being thankful...the clue is in the name.. Thanksgiving seems to revolve around food...especially the centrepiece...the Turkey
Now..as a new wife..I am eager that Hubby and I start making traditions together..keeping the old and creating the new. So...it goes without saying that Turkey will be on the Thanksgiving menu.So the hunt is on..... via the local markets of course
But.. there's a problem....well actually ...its not really a problem. As a Brit...and especially one from MY family...Turkey has been the TFFP ( Traditional Food Focal Point...and yes I did just make that up) at Christmas. And there are just three weeks between the two holidays.
So I thought...maybe I should get Hubby to change his tradition and suggest getting just a ham. That thought lasted a second. Apparently MrD likes a bit of ham as well as the turkey. Then I thought.. maybe I should change my traditions..and get a piece of beef...or maybe a chicken...or maybe even make a vegetarian roast. That thought lasted for LESS than a second
So people...MrD and I will be having two turkeys...small ones...one at Thanksgiving...and one at Christmas....and will just vary the accompaniments.
Its a bloomin' good job we love Turkey

  1. We have both; ham and turkey. That way, there is leftovers...because the guys love leftover ham and turkey. I think it is great you are starting your own traditions. Our tradition: whom ever wants to come over, fine, but the Conley's (us 3) don't travel on the holidays...nope. That's our tradition...and yes, it does cause friction...

Thanks for the smiles, Phoebe. Hope your feeling better. Blessings

  3. I enjoyed reading this.

Some traditions / concepts would never truly be appreciated until experienced, first-hand.

Do enjoy the Ham / Turkey and may you always have more than enough reasons to be thankful this season and always.

    Hugs,

    Abiola.
