The Dress...

Happy Anniversary to my amazing mum and dad 

who would have been married 65 years today

I know where they are...

I know they are together...

I know they are happy 

and this has always brought me great comfort

But can I just mention how gorgeous my mother looked on my grandads arm

and her wedding dress was just stunning

For many years she kept it in her wardrobe.. her veil and headdress carefully placed in a box in her dresser drawer. I used to love getting it out to gawp at. Made of a heavy jacquard satin.. scattered with masses of lily of the valley it was simple, elegant and just beautiful.  Hand made fabric buttons ran down the back onto the full skirt.. with the same buttons down the pointed sleeve. She even kept the the full lace petticoat.

She kept it for over forty years.. but when she suddenly passed away it was gone. When I went to sort her things... I found I had very little to do as she had done it all. To this day I say she knew how ill she was and never let on.

I wish I knew what happened to it and hope it didnt end up on a dump somewhere. But that dress will always be a special memory... Just like the image of beautiful woman who wore it
