Wednesday Hodgepodge..

Halfway through the week already. Its time to join Joyce over at This Side of the Pond for the Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. When did you last have to interact, either by phone or in person, with someone in a government run agency? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the experience? (10 being fabulous and 1 being pass the Tylenol)
For the past year, since applying to come to America to marry MrD I have had to deal with lots of agencys...both here and in the UK. The immigration process was long, complicated and expensive ..and now I'm here trying to become a citizen its still ongoing. For the most part people are helpful....when you can get to speak to them. I spend a lot of time pushing buttons and listening to machines. Since arriving here I feel like I'm floating in the wind. For example...right now Im trying to get a social security number so I can go on MrDs healthcare. A couple of very long waits in the Social Security office revealed I needed to have my alien registration number..which I now have...and I have to legally change my name...marriage dosnt automatically do it. I have a two week wait for the interview to do that. What would make life easier would be if they provided a check list of what needs to be done. I just want to make sure that I'm doing everything right and just dont know what else is round the corner

2. The current governor of Wisconsin is considering a run for President next time around. Walker attended Marquette University, but never graduated. In terms of any candidate running for the office of President (not asking here if you agree or disagree with Scott Walker's politics) would the lack of a college degree influence your vote or no? Would that be a factor in your support of any candidate running for public office, even a role less weighty than President?
It wouldn't bother me at all....lack of a college degree dosnt mean a lack of empathy or common sense. All I ask for is someone who is honest and carry out the promises made during an election campaign. I feel let down by so many politicians right now.

3. When did you last visit a place or site named for George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, and what was that place or site?
Never....Sigh. But soon I hope. MrDs family live in Washington. Although I have been to the Hoover Dam...and he was a President...right?

 4. February 16th was President's Day in the US, but did you know it was also National Almond Day? I didn't think so : ) Do you like almonds? If so, what's a food/dish/recipe you enjoy that contains almonds?
I love almonds....and my favourite way of eating them is actually in Almond Milk. It makes my oatmeal so rich and creamy with less calories and fat than regular milk

5.The television program Saturday Night Live celebrated it's 40th anniversary this past weekend. Were/are you a fan of the show? If so what has been your favorite (or one of your favorite) skits, sayings, or characters that came out of the program?
I don't think we got Saturday Night Live in the UK...or if we did I never watched it. I do know that two of my favourite funny men were on there though. Jimmy Fallon and Will Ferrell always bring a smile to my face

6. Anything purple within ten feet of you? What is it?
Absolutely nothing....and looking around the whole apartment I cant see anything purple anywhere!!  Although...I do have a Deep Purple CD somewhere....does that count?

7. Back in December I asked you to submit a question for a future HP as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I grabbed this one from those entries, submitted by Zoanna who blogs over at Penchant for Pens. Thanks Zoanna!
She asks, "How often do you make your bed, and how do you like to make it-pull the covers all the way up over the pillows, tuck the covers in around the pillows, or place all the pillows on top of the covers?"
I make the bed every morning and change all the bedding once a week. I tuck the covers away from the pillows

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Thank you Valentines Day.......

every time...

  1. Good luck with all your immigration paperwork. My daughter just got married and moved to a new state, so is busy changing her name, getting a new Soc Sec card, transferring her car registration, etc. There is an order in which you need to do things and that can be confusing. Hope all goes well as you work toward citizenship! Yes-Hoover was a President...I read naming the dam after him was a bit controversial at the time. I've never been but would love to see it. Have a nice day!
