Belated Fathers Day...

Mrd finally got his Fathers Day parcel from Miss C in the Uk. He hadnt expected anything..but Miss C thinks the world of him and over the last seven years has stepped up to the plate and become the dad her own father should be. (enough said....)
Any way...he was really pleased to get a thoughtful...and really clever  card... (dont you think the Lego guy looks like himm??)
A pair of Harley socks with Dad on them...
and a few bars of British chocolate...
Although... temperatures here are over 100 right now...
and Im afraid they got a bit melty in the mailbox..
Still Im sure they will taste just as good once they harden in the fridge..

I hope...

Whats For Dinner ~ Meal Plan Monday...

The last week of June... and we are settling well in the Blue House. Its 10 degrees hotter than where we used to live so for the next couple of days its going to be in the hundreds.. so Im glad most of the unpacking has been done. MrD has gone back to work after his four days off... I can now get into a normal routine of cooking and housework. He leaves at 3.30am so I can get quite a bit done before it gets too hot.

We ate out quite a bit last week... so its great to start menu planning again...and cook in my light..airy kitchen.

Its good to be home...

Gardening...at Last...

Today MrD and I decided to tackle the gardens and the garage. Last night we went to pick up the lawn mower...and switched off the sprinkler system so the grass could dry a little ready for cutting..

It got hot really fast..and a couple of little friends decided to pay a visit.. Salamanders I dont mind. Snakes..I would be running in the opposite direction...
MrD has waited so long to mow his own lawn and enjoyed every second of it. I spent time empyting dead plants out of pots and brushing up all the dead leaves.
Then it was time to start sorting out the garage. The previous owners had left a lot of rubbish...but had also left garden tools..compost and plant pots. We spent a couple of hours out there... with MrD up and down the ladder .. but soon it got much to hot and when temps soared over 100.. we called it a day...
We sat in the shade and enjoyed a cold drink...a light lunch... and planned what to do next week.

Kitchen Work...

Walking out to the front porch to enjoy the first coffee of the day..we discovered a Friday visitor enjoying a sprinkler shower in the early morning sunshine.

You know...I really love this house. In all seven years of being married to this wonderful man and renting homes, we’ve always lived in small, dark apartments with no kitchen window, and no charm. When we started house hunting my biggest stipulation was that our home had to have lots of windows...especially one over the kitchen sink. Lots of light. Lots of potential for brightness and warmth. This house has what my heart  longed for.. the original  kitchen from when it was built in the 1950s...with a couple of modern appliances
Of course ..being so old and it having no modern cabinetry.. we accept a few problems will arise... but with a handyman hubby.. hopefully there will be no big problems. Although.. a small leak started under the sink which MrD decided to tackle before it got worse... and this of course meant another trip to the hardware store.
He soon got it fixed..and it provided a good opportunity to start building up his tool collection... something he hasnt really needed having lived in apartments for so long.
I just wish he hadnt chosen to do it while I was still trying to organise the kitchen!

Papa Bears "Necessity"...

Travelling 120 miles to work and back in the truck every day.. is a bit heavy on the gas...especially the way fuel prices are right now. Not to mention the wear and tear on the old girl.  So hubby bit the bullet and bought himself a Corolla hybrid.

Its comfortable...very economic... and although its not the type of car he would normally choose... it should do the job nicely...

Getting Done...

Today I spent the day cleaning the old apartment..saying goodbye to our old home.. and the area we lived in. I doubt there will be any reason for me to travel the hour and a half to visit. So today.. I’m tired.. my muscles ache.. there are still boxes to be unpacked.. drawers and cupboards to be organized.. and finding a place for everything
But…it’s coming along nicely and I’m loving every back breaking moment...and one room is almost done already...Just needs a few pictures..onaments and new pillows for the bed
Yes… I know MrD .. It all dosnt have to be done in one day.. but I just want it over so I can start enjoying it and spending time in the garden. And….no more searching for stuff...so that should make hubby happier..
Plus .. I love the view of the sunrise from my own front porch.. a lovely place to sit and start the day…

A New Week...

And so begins the first week in the Blue House.
MrD left for work about an hour ago and just called to say he’s arrived safely. So the morning run isn’t too bad… tonight tho .. he will hit the rush hour traffic…But its a short week for him as hes only working three days. We have quite a bit of running around to do..so no meal plan... and we shall have to wing it
We spent the weekend cleaning.. putting beds together.. moving furniture onto place and taking a couple of trips to Hardware stores. MrD spent as much time looking for electrical sockets as I do choosing fabric... so who am I to of journeys to hardware stores. complain?
The gasman came late Saturday to check everything and restore supply so I can cook again . Before then.. we had to eat out and found a lovely little family run restaurant that does real home cooking . The lasagne was lush
We still don’t have internet and cable.. tho the guy is coming this afternoon to sort it..Im not missing it right now as I have more than enough to do. And tmorrow..Im going back to the old place to give it a good clean.. so we may call at Hannahs Kitchen again.

More Prepping Work!

Day two at the house..preparing for the workmen tomorrow. We certainly made an impression on the neighbours when..after the realtor told is to have a quick peek inside....she forgot to to tell us the code for the alarm system. After a quick panic trying to phone the realtor.. and not being able to hear her because of the deafening noise...all was well... and at least we know the alarm works. I cant wait to start moving furniture in this weekend. Cool neighbours too
I set to work cutting down that beautiful Bougainvillea by the back door
Such a shame..but the contractors need it cut back so they can tent
I left the roots...hoping for some regrowth...but that huge cactus had to go.
I had to get MrD to help as it was stubborn.. and it got its revenge by stabbing me a few times
Meanwhile MrD set to taking down the front railings on the porch
The metal was very rusted and crumbling...and all the screws rusted tight...
but he managed
He also had to cut back the hedge...hoping that it will regrow and fillout again
While MrD tackled the electrics..
I set to clearing a bed of Nasturtium, Jasmine amd Ivy
Which was a shame..but revealed that the soil beneath
was dry and dead and needed a good feeding with organic matter
Then it will be fun choosing what to plant there

So Day Two down...and we are set to go.

Whats For Dinner ~ Meal Plan Monday...

A short post for today... and just to say...

We Have A House!!!

Escrow called us just after nine this morning to say everything is done and dusted... and we are now homeowners... We can either have the closing papers mailed to us or pick them up personally at our convenience.

So now comes the big push as we will be moving on Friday.

This weeks menu is simple...using what I have in the fridge. I have no clue what to make at the weekend... so we may have take out...or I have pasta sauce in the freezer that can be defrosted for a quick dinner.

Whatever we decide... it will be in our forever home

Tuesday               Chicken Taco Salad

Friday                  Moving Day

Saturday              I Have No Idea!!
