Thursday May 30th

Little Miss had a lovely day today when she attended a birthday party and met her idol Cinderella.
For me it served as a reminder how fast time is passing as she wore the same dress as she did when we went to Disney land two years ago.
Amazingly the dress still fits... but it was at least 3 inches longer..

Slow down Little Miss..

I thought it was about time I used up the cherries that I bought the other day.. and made a yummy cherry pie... MrDs favourite. It turned out really good.. and MrD loved it

Cherry Pie

A simple recipe taken from my grandmothers kitchen. Absolutely delicious and a taste of home
2 pie crusts homemade or store bought
5 cups fresh cherries washed and pitted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup corn starch
1 tablespoon butter
Eggwash:1 large egg beaten with 1 Tablespoon  milk
1 tablespoon coarse sugar optional
vanilla ice cream or whipped cream optional, for serving
  • Roll one pie crust into the bottom of a glass pie plate and refrigerate while making the filling.
  • In a large bowl, stir together cherries, sugar, lemon juice, almond extract, flour and corn starch.
  • Pour into pie plate and spread cherry filling out to fill evenly.
  • Dot the top with butter.
  • Top cherry filling with lattice pie crust or a vented full crust.
  • Crimp edges.
  • Brush top crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour or until the bottom crust looks golden brown.
  • If top crust starts to get too dark, cover with foil until bottom has fully cooked.
  • Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting and serving.

Wednesday May 29th

Halfway through the work week already. Time sure flies. I dont seem to do much... but Im always busy
When I went out to the garden this morning I was pleased to see how well the zucchini are growing...
but I was perturbed to find holes in the tomato bed.
They are not too deep, but I hope this doesn't indicate a bigger problem
And on a complete change of subject...Im not sure what shes selling...but for the last few days this lady has been pushing her food cart down her street. Its a change to the ice cream van... and I hope she does well..

Tuesday May 28th

It was lovely having MrD home for a long weekend. We managed to get quite a few jobs done around the place...and have time to relax together
Now he's gone back to work I can concentrate on the "little things' and after catching up with housework.. I pottered in the garden
tidying the beds
and hanging baskets
trimming rose bushes
and transplanting flowers
with everything blooming... the colours are fabulous.
And MrD gets to relax and enjoy it after a long day

And talking of MrD we had a phone call from the doctors office this evening.. and his surgery for his double hernia is booked for Friday next week.  We are very thankful that it will soon be done and dusted

Monday May 27th

Happy Memorial Day
We started today with a quick trip to the dog park. It was already very warm and after the initial running around.. Prince spent much of his time in the shade of a leafy tree. Still.. he enjoys the change of scenery and meeting other dogs
On the way home.. we passed a church fundraiser where they were selling beautiful fresh cherries. We just had to stop and buy a large bag. As well as being sweet and juicy to eat as a snack.. I can see I pie in their future
Back home we got a new picture of the grandbabies. Little Mr had spent the day with his cousins... and per my request had decided on a name for our new garden gnome..

So we now have a Robbie lying in his leaf hammock on our cucumber arch in the Victory Garden.
And talking of our Victory garden... today I harvested our first potatoes...
not too many..
Just enough to have with our grilled steak for dinner. They were absolutely delicious.. with a creamy texture.. and didnt need any salt or butter!.

I cant wait till all the veggies on our plate are home grown

Here's this weeks dinner menu..

Sunday May 26th

Happy Sunday
On the way home we drove by a new thrift shop with a rather large advertising sign....
Can you see what I see???
We spent the afternoon pottering in the garden...
Mr D mowing the lawns...
where his hard work is paying off
As for myself.. I take great pleasure in seeing how my Victory Garden is growing
and I am so excited to see bell peppers now appearing...
And a check on the potatoes show they are ready to be harvested
Meanwhile...Little Mr has been flexing his muscles ready for a birthday party...
where he met Elsa and was absolutely smitten...
and Little Miss and Little Tufty danced the afternoon away...
Until the littlest one decided to catch up on her reading..

What a pleasant Sunday for everyone
