And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child
Being so close to the birth of her child, this was probably not a journey Mary wanted to take. It was long.. and arduous..and very uncomfortable. Not the way she had imagined the end of her pregnancy would be. But she accepted it.
This would not be the last time she would undertake an unwanted journey.. After the birth of her Son she and Joseph would have to flee to Egypt to save their baby's life. And years later..another fateful journey would taken with her Son...as she followed him to Calvary
We all take unwanted journeys in life.. with illness, life choices and loss. But it is a comfort to know that in all these journeys, we are not alone. God walks beside us, giving us strength and encouragement to endure. And that is a true blessing
This Christmas song reminds me of my childhood..
and the chorus is beautiful
Enjoy!

I've never heard that song before. It does have a pretty chorus. I can't imagine being 9 months pregnant and riding on a donkey for such a long distance! Have a wonderful day.

ReplyDeleteA sweet post. I especially appreciate that last paragraph about unwanted journeys that we don't necessarily want to take. God bless you at Christmas and always.
