Well...yesterday wasnt very productive!
As I may have mentioned Im new to this Thanksgiving lark being relatively new to the US and its customs...
The last three weeks have been a whirl of gaiety during Miss Cs visit but now shes gone home I thought it was time to get my butt into gear and get some planning and decorating done. Plenty of time to get organised right? I mean there are two weeks til the Big Day. Wrong!
I spent a few hours yesterday scouring the local stores looking for Fall/ Thanksgiving decorations. Apart from a few paper plates and napkins..and the occasional dried sunflower.there was nothing...nada...not a sausage ( sorry..quaint English saying!)
Now..no one loves Christmas more than me...it has to be my favourite holiday of the year. My house in the UK was often compared to Santas grotto...and not just because of my big tummy and red nose. And I have been heard to sing 'Have a Holly Jolly Christmas' in the middle of July
But its only November! I know its each to his own..but cant we just enjoy each holiday without worrying about the next one. I think we need to slow down and enjoy every day..and savour every special moment. Time passes so quickly anyway...we dont need to be rushed onto the next big thing. Each holiday needs all the time it deserves
So next year....I wont be caught short and I will be prepared. But for now...I guess its time to put my DIY skills to the test and see what I make with a few pumpkins, pine cones and a bag of candy corn.
Oh and retailers..please take pity on those of us aspire to be an organised Martha Stewart....but fall maddingly short.

Unfort... you have to start your fall/Thanksgiving shopping in say July, August. I totally agree with you, Phoebe...if you have a Michaels or Hobby Lobby, or another craft store, try them. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI have learnt my lesson Linda. I am in the process of twisting MrDs arm...and the promise of chocolate chip cookies.. for a little visit to Michaels

Our Canadian Thanksgiving is in October so we don't see quite as much overlapping of holidays as you do in the states but it is there!
ReplyDeleteIt is cold enough here today it makes me start thinking about Christmas.
Take care.
Cant wait to see some more of your lovely photos
