Well...yesterday I spent the afternoon at the Federal Building in Los Angeles. I had an appointment to legally change my surname. I thought it happened when you got married, but not, it seems, when you are an immigrant.
I'm afraid it wasn't as fruitful as I hoped it would be. Im still not Mrs D on my alien registration...although I now have a number. There were a few things that we got sorted that should have been done before but were not told. Different departments are telling me different things. Its like the the right hand dosnt know what the left hand is doing. To be quite honest...its all pretty confusing.
The main thing is Im now documented as being married and don't have to leave the states. I should be able to get an ID card in the name of MrsD but not a social security number...yet. Im so glad MrD was with me cos I just kept saying "no havent been told that" and "huh?'
Somebody please just give me a checklist so I know what Im supposed to be doing..
