Not A Bad Week....

Its Friday... so its an opportunity to look back over the week with Suzanne at Living to Tell The Tale. Its been a bit of a mixed bag..but all in all its been a good one which I'm grateful for

Baby Shower
Last weekend was my daughters and Mr P's Baby Shower with their friends in Wales. Unfortunately the Internet connection let us down and I couldn't join in the party but it was lovely seeing all the photos afterwards. So much pink! It was wonderful

The Bishops Wife
I absolutely adore Christmas movies.. especially the old black and white ones. The other afternoon I settled down with the cat and a hot chocolate to watch one of my favourites.... 'The Bishops Wife' starring David Niven, Loretta Young and the fabulous Cary Grant as Dudley the Angel. At the end of the movie the Bishop stands in his pulpit and gives his sermon.. the story of  An Empty Stocking. It touches my heart and brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it

Fish n' Chips
Fish and chips are synonymous with the British..Indeed, growing up it was the Saturday night treat to go to the local 'chippy' and have Fish and chips with lashings of salt and malt vinegar.. all wrapped up in newspaper. Over here its not that big of a deal.. so I have only had it once in three years. However... last weekend we went out to dinner with friends... and there it was on the menu. So of course I  had to try. Well.. the chips wernt big and chunky... and there was coleslaw not mushy peas.. but the battered fish was delicious and did taste like home. Definitely my favourite meal of the week

Cooler Weather
Its snowing back home in  Wales.. and I miss it. This was the view from my window a few years ago. Although its not on the same scale as other parts of the country.. its nice that the weather here is getting cooler. When I went on my walk yesterday morning it was 42..although it did reach 80 in the afternoon. As a lady of a certain age..its a blessed relief to go out and about without 'glowing'.  And I can sleep comfortably at night again.

Uncle Pete
And finally... I cant really say this was a favourite part of my week...but its definitely one of my favourite people. My dear Uncle Pete died this week. He had a massive heart attack that he didn't come out of. I guess as Ive got older... I have forgotten that other people get older too. It was really upsetting to hear..and its sad that I cant be at the funeral. But.. it is a blessing to know where he is and that one day we will meet again.. And I'm guessing he and Dad are having a good old time catching up. Love you Uncle Pete... Until we meet again x

Love and Hugs

  1. I’m so sorry to hear of your uncle. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Wow cannot believe you don’t know about St Nicholas!! Look it up! It’s where we Americans get our concept of Santa Claus from. If you have 80degree temps i assume you are in the southern part of the USA! I’m currently sitting in a bakery in Saratoga NY and it is a gorgeous sunny day with a high of 37!😜but no snow yet

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. There is comfort in knowing that our loved ones are all together. I love the old black and white Christmas movies, too. My favorite is the Bells of St. Mary with Bing Crosby. I'll have to look for The Bishop's Wife. We've had record breaking warm weather for the past month. It doesn't feel much like Christmas when it's so warm. Hoping for a little snow here soon! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Comfort to you as you think of your Uncle Pete.
If you get up to Ventura, you will find a couple of great fish and chips places. Just sayin'. 😀
We are watching the fires too. Just in case The Professor needs to evacuate.
    Have a good weekend!

  4. The shower sounds like fun! I have not seen that movie - I'll have to look it up. I had fish and chips once decades ago at a restaurant in TX and enjoyed them!

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your uncle. It's a blessing to know we'll see our loved ones who have passed, though we do miss them til then. By the way, he looks a little like Ronan Tynan of the Irish Tenors. Not enough to be mistaken for him, but enough that they look like they could be brothers or related somehow.

  5. Sounds like you had a mixed bag of good and bad this week. The fish and chips looked wonderful, one of my favorite meals. The Bishop's Wife is an all-time favorite for me as well, nothing better than a bowl of popcorn and a good movie. Your daughter is beautiful! What fun to have a baby shower, and it's a girl!!

So sorry about your uncle, he looks like a wonderful man, I know you will miss him, but you are right, you will see him again...how wonderful!!

    Have a great week-end!

  7. Oh Phoebe, I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle Pete. He looks like a dear sweet man.
I'm sorry too that you weren't able to join in the shower via the internet. Rats to that.
Lastly, I love fish and chips too but invariably they give me a terrible tummy ache.

  8. I am so sorry to hear of your uncle's passing Phoebe. You are right, it is hard to fathom that the people we loved and admired are leaving us. ( And that means we are the older generation which is unfathomable as well.) So glad you found some joy in the week. The Bishop's Wife is a favorite of mine as well. I love Loretta Young. As I understand it she was a devout believer.
